The bar has been set pretty high for Falcon thrower Angelina Berger.
The junior set the school record in the shot put last year, and has already broken her previous mark with a toss of 38 feet, 6 inches. Early in the track and field season, and the junior holds the second-best shot put throw.
Berger also set her personal record in the javelin throw at 124 feet, 9 inches, which puts her as the top-ranked javelin thrower among 2A girls in Washington. She also had the fourth-best discus throw among 2A competitors at 105 feet, 6 inches (her personal record is 109 feet, 9 inches).
The throws came at South Whidbey’s first track and field meet against Lakewood and Granite Falls on Thursday.
Nick French smashed his previous best mark in the javelin with a toss of 175 feet, 1 inch.
South Whidbey’s softball squad picked up where it left off last year – with a win against Archbishop Murphy, a perennial power in the Cascade Conference. …Read the rest of this post
South Whidbey sports are quickly piling up a list of makeup games. The Falcon baseball, softball and tennis teams canceled their contests today.
The Falcon baseball team had to cancel its rescheduled home game against the Cedarcrest Red Wolves today. The makeup is scheduled for tomorrow (Friday, March 16) as a double header at Cedarcrest.
South Whidbey softball had its first cancellation today against Cedarcrest. It would have been the first Cascade Conference game the Falcons had played. The Falcons are rescheduled to host the Red Wolves fastpitch team at 4 p.m. Friday, March 16.
The Falcon girls tennis team’s travels to Friday Harbor were postponed as well. This is the second match that was canceled due to rain or water-covered courts. A makeup date was not yet determined by South Whidbey Athletic Director Scott Mauk. The tennis team is scheduled to travel north to Bellingham on Saturday, March 17.
The 2012 Falcon girls tennis season begins in earnest today against Friday Harbor.
An earlier match that was scheduled against Bellingham was postponed because of the rain until Saturday, March 17.
